Sage Events sprang from a tiny three-seat lunch spot that opened back in 1998 when Leslie Ann Nilsson and her team harnessed their many collected experiences to launch the original Sage American Kitchen. That experience started back in the 80's when Leslie spent a semester abroad in Brittany, France studying the language, and mostly skipping classes to sit in cafes sampling the food. It was the fresh Breton oysters right out of the sea that did it! She was a committed convert to local foods.
Two years in finance provided Leslie with a lifetime fill of 'the corporate world'. She gladly gave it up to travel solo around Europe –literally eating her way from Finland to Turkey. Then came several more years, working in restaurants, this time in New York City while she finished her Masters in Literature at NYU. A stint as a low-paid editorial assistant at Glamour forced her to continue her work as a cater-waiter. This led to a host of private catering jobs that she cooked in her third floor walk-up apartment in Greenwich Village, with The Silver Palate cookbook as her bible. Their killer recipe for Spaghetti Carbonara landed her an Italian husband, and off they went to live in Rome, where the incredible Campo dei Fiori open-air market inspired her to concoct elaborate meals for her husband and his literary pals.
Cooking and baking everything from scratch with market-fresh ingredients inspired Leslie to open her own company back in New York. Thus "Baby Sage" was born. The Sage staff worked hard to give customers the friendliest, best possible service out of a tiny working space. Their hard work and delicious food earned the company immediate accolades and repeat business from a broad array of clients—from major corporations like Goldman Sachs to film studios and television productions, including HBO's The Sopranos and Sex and The City, not to mention numerous celebrities and political dignitaries.
Clients like the World Monument Fund, Ralph Lauren and Coach, as well as rock stars and normal folk who love good food, work with Sage Events from start to finish to create exciting food-focused events. With over 250 weddings under her direction, Leslie has also become the wedding planner of choice for New York foodies.
